The current generation of the Dodge Journey was first introduced in 2008 for the 2009 model year. Thus far, it hasn’t received too many substantial updates except for the 2011 facelift when it came with some cosmetic changes, a new engine, modified suspension and several other tweaks. Despite its mostly outdated styling and technology, this SUV has proven quite popular among those buyers that seek a dependable and comfortable family-hauler. However, its complete overhaul is inevitable at some point and the new-generation model has been speculated about for a while. According to reliable sources, the 2017 Dodge Journey is expected to come as a completely redesigned model sometime in the second half of 2016.
2017 Dodge Journey Redesign
Production of the new-generation Journey will be shifted from its current location in Toluca, Mexico to the Sterling Heights Assembly facility in Michigan, USA. It is the same Chrysler’s plant that builds the new Chrysler 200 sedan. Rumor has it that the 2017 Dodge Journey alongside the Chrysler 200 will share the same platform that already underpins the new Jeep Cherokee and Dodge Dart.
As for the exterior design, we can only speculate since the company still hasn’t issued any official statements concerning the redesigned model. However, we believe that the 2017 Dodge Journey is likely to receive a thorough overhaul of its sheet metal. The FCA Group has recently launched several redesigned crossover SUVs that feature a bold design philosophy, such as the new Jeep and Fiat SUV family. Something similar is expected from the all-new Journey which desperately needs a more contemporary exterior design as well as a number of technological enhancements. The interior will also receive significant changes including more upscale materials and revised dashboard and center console.
Unfortunately, we’re still awaiting official details on the 2017 Dodge Journey’s engine range. The current version is available with two gasoline units. The less potent engine comes as the 2.4-liter four-cylinder that gives 173 horsepower and 166 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 4-speed transmission. As for the more powerful option, it is the 3.6-liter V6 that generates 283 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, matched to a 6-speed gearbox.
2017 Dodge Journey Release Date
Although the exact release date is still unknown, the 2017 Dodge Journey is very likely to arrive by the end of 2016.
