The 2018 Dodge Ram 1500 will mark the long-awaited next generation of this highly popular pickup truck. As it has recently been confirmed by spy photos, the all-new 1500 is being prepared to replace the current model that has been around since 2008. It will practically be built from scratch, bringing a wide variety of substantial enhancements and new technology. On top of that, expect this capable pickup to be offered in more variants and styles than ever before. Although it has been anticipated by some that the redesigned model could copy the new Ford F-150 when it comes to the all-aluminum platform, it appears that it won’t be the case. However, the overhauled 1500 will definitely use a number of lightweight materials that should affect its curb weight in a positive way.
2018 Dodge Ram 1500 Design and Features
According to the spy shots of a test mule, the 2018 Dodge Ram 1500 will be notably larger than its predecessor. The longer wheelbase and larger cabin should result in a much more capacious passenger and cargo capacity compared to the outgoing version. That is especially noticeable when it comes to the crew cab model which seems to sport larger door openings and a more spacious second row of seats. Design wise, the redesign will bring mostly evolutionary changes of the sheet metal, including a restyled chrome grille and smaller headlights. At the back, expect to see revised taillights and new back-up lights now positioned vertically. As for the cabin design, we are still awaiting more detailed reports. However, we do know that the upcoming model will offer more storage space, partially thanks to a new flattened center stack.
2018 Ram 1500 Powertrain Options
The 2018 Dodge Ram 1500 will be available with three engine options to choose from. The most significant upgrades will be applied in the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 which is expected to offer higher output and torque numbers. As for the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, rumor has it that it might come with direct-injection and an optional turbocharger. For those who opt for more power, the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 will probably be the best option. As part of an effort to introduce a more efficient engine range, Dodge Ram will start using belt-start generators in the redesigned 1500.
2018 Dodge Ram 1500 Release Date
The most recent reports suggest that the 2018 Dodge Ram 1500’s release date could be slightly postponed, so we expect it to go on sale in January 2018.
