The most recent reports suggest that Ram might launch the upgraded Heavy Duty lineup earlier than previously thought. It appears that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ testing grounds in Michigan are teeming with activity that involves revamped versions of the 2500 and 3500 trucks. That basically means the substantially improved HD line will follow the completely redesigned Ram 1500, hitting the market for the 2018 model year. Some are even suggesting that the recently photographed test mules are actually prototypes of the next-generation Heavy Duty trucks. In any case, expect the 2018 Ram 2500 to make a huge step forward in the fierce competition with the likes of the Ford F-250 and Chevy Silverado 2500.
2018 Ram 2500 Design
According to the aforementioned spy shots, it seems that Ram’s designers are currently working on a major exterior overhaul of the HD models. It has been speculated for a while that the company intends to improve aerodynamics across the range. In that sense, expect the 2018 Ram 2500 to adopt a restyled front fascia with a smaller and lower grille as well as a reshaped front bumper. The headlights should become thinner, while the hood design will also undergo notable changes. As for the rear end, the changes will be more subtle, including slightly reshaped taillights. Inside, the upcoming Ram HD is expected to bring a new take on the interior design and several new materials. There will also be enhancements when it comes to the infotainment system and other convenience technologies. However, a more detailed report on the new interior will hopefully come in the following months.
2018 Ram 2500 Engine Range
As far as the mechanical department is concerned, some sources have speculated about certain upgrades, especially in the case of diesel options. The 2018 Ram 2500 should retain the currently available two V8 gasoline engines as well as the diesel-powered Cummins V6. The 5.7-liter Hemi V8 now delivers 383 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque, whereas the more powerful gas unit comes in the form of a 6.4-liter V8 generating 410 hp and 429 lb-ft. Rumor has it that the highly capable Cummins 6.7-liter turbodiesel V8, churning out 380 hp and 800 lb-ft, might come with a slight output increase.
The company has yet to issue official statements on the release date but we expect the 2018 Ram 2500 to go on sale in late 2017 or early 2018.
